On Friday night in Nakodar, Jalandhar, a dhaba owner got fired at for not accepting Rs. 500 currency notes!
An argument over demonetised notes turned heated and some customers got down to assaulting the dhaba owner. When the onlookers came to his rescue, the customers shot two bullets at the dhaba onwer and sped away.
The police have registered a case of attempt to murder while confirming that the dispute started over the demonetised note.
Sanjiv Kumar, owner of RK Dhaba in Fountain Chowk, said that a group of seven persons came to the dhaba at around 9.30 to have dinner and all of them were drunk.
“After finishing their meal when I handed over the bill of Rs 510, they gave me Rs 500 note but I refused. They started arguing and I told that Indian government had already demonetised the currency note and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had termed its use illegal barring a few exceptions then how could accept it,” he told TOI.”After initial arguments when I said that what I would do with the currency note, they started abusing me and then assaulted me. In the meantime, people from the market came to my rescue and they rushed to their vehicles. When people tried to stop them they fired two bullets and luckily none was hurt,” he said.
When asked, Nakodar City SHO Parminder Singh said that they had registered the case under Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder and under provisions of the Arms Act. He said that they recorded in the FIR that the dispute took place as the customers wanted to pay through Rs 500 currency note to the dhaba owner and latter refused.
