Staying True To Roots Is Our Biggest Strength: Jas Arora

The talented Jas Arora, last seen in director Sohail Khan’s Freaky Ali sharing the screen space with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amy Jackson, believes that the biggest strength of Punjabi cinema is staying real to the core and its strong connection with its roots, adding that its a great time to be associated with the booming Punjabi industry.

Jaideep Pandey in conversation with the on-screen Vikram Rathore, who terms Freaky Ali as the turning point in his career.


Would you agree that Bollywood is borrowing alot from regional cinema, especially Punjabi?

Absolutely! When you will look at the songs., nearly every chart buster is a Punjabi number.

Punjabi Cinema has completed 81 years, what do you think is our biggest strength?

I think its biggest strength is staying true to the Punjabi roots. For instance, we might shoot in Canada, London or anywhere in the world, but the content has its roots in Punjab.

You have worked in Bollywood and also Punjabi music videos…cinema time now?

I haven’t worked in Punjabi movies yet but yes, I am looking forward to some powerful roles that go with my look and allow me to explore my potential.

Can we expect to see you in Punjabi films this year?

It completely depends on the script.

Who’s your favorite when it comes to Punjabi Cinema?

I just love almost all the comedians. I feel that humour is the backbone of Punjabi Cinema.

Where do you find Nawazuddin Siddiqui as an actor?

He is undoubtedly one of the most powerful actors in cinema today.

Who would you like to work with, in Punjabi industry?

I would love to work with a powerful script. Anytime!

After ‘Gur Naalo Ishq Mitha’ were you offered any Punjabi movies?

Punjabi Cinema has come of age now, and I can say that its a great time to be associated with Punjabi industry.

Turning point in your career?

I think the turning point in my career was Sohail Khan’s calling me to his office and offering me the role in Freaky Ali opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui. I will always be grateful to Sohail Bhai for the role he offered me.

How important are critics for you?

I think they are the ones who give you a view of things that you just can’t imagine.

Any plans of doing small screen, a Punjabi show?

Currently I have no such plans.

Where do we catch you on a Saturday night?

I am not predictable like that.

What’s your take on Diljit Dosanjh as the current hot seller in B-Town?

I think he is one of the most talented performers from Punjab in Bollywood today.
